Identity Theft Bill Christian Online banking and making a purchase on the Internet saves time, but this convenience can sometimes come with a price. In recent years identity theft has been a big problem just in larger areas. Not anymore. "It's hard to believe that would go on in a rural county." Said William Hustud, Scott County Resident. Investigators with the Scott County Sheriff's Department say Internet crime has taken off and is hard to stop. The biggest problem is when someone pretends to be a legitimate company and takes your money and credit card information without sending the product. "It does worry me to give out information over the Internet or to anyone." Said Mechon Baker, Scott County Resident. Scott County Authorities say you should be cautious about the company you're dealing with online. But it may not be enough to protect your personal information. "It cannot totally be stopped. We can do things to minimize it and try to prevent it, but I don't think there is anyway to totally stop it." Said Brad Hoover, New Peoples Bank Vice President. The experts say be cautious with your personnel information, including your social security number. Know who you are talking to and monitor your credit report. Courtesy
